What to Wear to Special Events

The time is quickly approaching those special events, “end of the year” outings, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties, and New Year’s Eve parties.  What do you wear to these events? Here are a few tips to help.

1. Determine what will feel right for the special event. This will help you to eliminate those skimpy and too shiny looks.

2. Do not buy an outfit that will only be worn once.  It makes more sense to create a look that can work for other occasions.

3. Don’t wear too tailored looking suits or dresses.

Here are some ideas for special occasions.

1. A dark sheath dress - worn to a graduation, religious service, funeral, daytime wedding, and office party.

2. Icy pastel suit - worn to a graduation, daytime wedding, and religious service.

3. Simple dress with one interesting detail and a shawl - worn to formal cocktails, evening wedding, and New Year’s Eve.

Five Favorite Fall Trends

These are my five favorite trends. I have also included links to some of my favorite looks on Neiman Marcus’s Website.

1. Print Dresses - They should fit loose and have a nice fit.
2. Tailored Jackets - Menswear inspired jackets are showing their classic essence
3. Ruffled Blouses - Off centered and multi-layered are popular this season.
4. Fuller Skirts- Show off your personal style with flattering full skirts cut at the knee
5. Chunky Knits - Choose Chunky Knits because they are going to have a more fashionable impact on an outfit.

I love the elegance Chanel Haute Couture always expresses at their shows. From their show in Paris, the combination of black and white was a look I could wear and encourage my clients to wear. Many of the looks are layered, containing a dress length jacket to correspond with each combination. I also really like the small band around the waist. It coincides with the looks of the skinny belt around cardigans for this fall/winter season. I have been keeping up with the connection via my iPhone. I love that there is a Chanel Application, which I can always have access to especially with the events of personal shopping. Check out the full show.

I think this purse is gorgeous! However, the price tag is not so appealing. This wonderful handbag is known as the Pauric Sweeney python bag! It retails for about $3000!

New Fall Trends

New trends for the fall are popping up all of the place. Have you seen a trend, which you would like to follow? Here are some trends that even the fashion conscious can try.

1. Skinny belts- attached to a cardigan or purchased alone…this accessory can draw attention away from your flaws and draw attention to your more flattering area!

2. Cowboy boots - western look is the inspiration for this fall. Pair your tan boots, embellished with gorgeous stones, with a cute denim skirt suit…just in time for the fall.

3. Colors - gold, green, maroon, and burnt orange are wonderful fall colors to add to your wardrobe.  Mix and match wardrobe essentials to expand the horizons of your wardrobe

4.  Metallic ballet flats - various color metallic ballet flats can make even the most boring outfit look put together. For a great bargain, visit your local Walmart. I recently purchased ballet flats in all the latest colors for $9. (I just couldn’t pass up such a great deal!)

Men’s Interview Attire

• A solid color suit: navy or dark grey
• Long sleeve dress shirt (white)
• A belt which makes your shoes
• A nice conservative tie- nothing too flashy
• Dark socks
• Conservative dark shoes
• One ring on each finger; no earrings
• Neatly trimmed nails and pushed back cuticles
• A leather portfolio or briefcase

Before you even consider showing up for an interview, make sure you have the appropriate attire and that it fits right!
